Gardening For Sustainability
Gardening Tips, Ideas, and Creative ways to grow the plants we eat...
Gardening and I have been incompatible for most of my life. I think because I lacked the knowledge, desire, and interest that came with it. Gardening is a labor of love, and knowing that has changed my initial outlook towards it. I am proud to say that I have learned so much in the last two years about gardening for harvest, for joy, and most of all for the beauty it brings into my life. I pray that you find that, and so much more. Gardening for the purpose of enjoying the bounty you have toiled so hard for, is singularly, one of the most rewarding and delicious gifts you can give yourself and your family.
Grow Zone 6a-8a/Fall plantings:
-Leafy greens: spinach, kale, lettuce, Swiss chard, mustard greens (they grow quickly and taste sweeter after a light frost).
-Root vegetables: radishes (ready in 3 weeks), and turnips, carrots, beets will grow steadily through the fall.
-Brassicas: broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower (from established starter plugs rather than seeds)
-Alliums: garlic, shallots (plant in October to harvest next summer)
*Keep new seeds and transplants consistently moist*
